Nelson Barry and his team of friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow church congregants and many others started fundraising to be able to bring hot burritos directly to those living on the streets of San Francisco in the summer of 2015. Since they have handed out over 2,000 burritos.
Once the word spread that Urban Angels SF was also accepting clothing, blankets and tents, donations started to pour in and as a result of these donations, UASF has handed out over 10,000 articles of clothing and blankets in just two years.
With our growing corps of volunteers, especially our officers, Urban Angels SF has set a goal of doubling the number of hot meals we hand out in 2018 and tripling the amount of clothing and blankets that we deliver.
Urban Angels SF has also started it’s “One-on-One” program where our volunteers work individual with our clients to help them take advantage of the many governmental, NGO, charity and individual resources designed to help transition from living on the streets to permanent housing. A special component of our “One-on-One” program is that the leadership, in conjunction with our volunteers, will be selecting specific candidates who are currently living on the streets of SF for the purpose of shepherding them through the sometimes intimidating process of qualifying for assistance toward getting into permanent housing.
