School Supplies & Backpacks Campaign Reaches 100% of Goal Thanks to Supporters

A Letter from UASF President & Founder, Nelson Barry:

Dear Friends,

This year has tested us all – from economic uncertainty to global and local upheaval. But in the midst of all that, you showed up.

Because of your generosity, 1,000 San Francisco children received backpacks and school supplies—on time and with dignity. Children from at-risk backgrounds for example living in shelters in the Mission and the Tenderloin, now have a fighting chance of keeping up, graduating, and having better opportunities in life. All this is thanks to you and our UASF community. We couldn’t be more grateful.

Along the way, we’ve celebrated other powerful milestones:
Nearly 1,000 books shared through our lending library
Hundreds of students tutored, mentored, and supported
And yes—we’re already gearing up for our Give Joy! Holiday Gift Program

We’re especially thankful for the partners who made this summer’s backpack and school supplies program a success:

  • Rainbow Grocery, for stepping in when we needed it most

  • The SF Examiner and KRON4, for amplifying our mission to a wider audience

  • Generous donors, including a new major contributor and several matching gift champions, as well as MNTN

  • And a grant from Ross stores, which helps carry our work forward into fall and beyond

As we approach Urban Angels SF’s 10th birthday this December, we’re not just looking back—we’re stepping up.

This milestone is more than a celebration. It’s a call to action for our next chapter: deeper impact, stronger partnerships, and continued care for our neighbors facing poverty, homelessness, and instability.

Thank you for believing in this work. Thank you for being an Urban Angel.

In Gratitude,

Nelson Barry
