Tutoring Program
Year-round tutoring to enhance academic outcomes for at-risk sf youths Every day a student falls further behind in reading, the harder it is to catch up — and for unhoused children in San Francisco, the odds are already stacked against them. That’s why Urban Angels SF launched its free, year-round tutoring program in 2024, focused on helping at-risk and unhoused youth build essential literacy skills and academic confidence. Every month, more children are signed up by their shelters or schools to access this program.
Through partnerships with trusted providers like Air Reading and Step Up Tutoring, and in collaboration with local shelters, we’re delivering one-on-one, live virtual tutoring — along with Chromebooks and headsets — so kids can learn wherever they are.
This program doesn’t just offer academic support. It’s offering hope, consistency, and community. Most tutors stay paired with the same child through the entire academic year. While full data is still being collected, the early feedback from students, families, and educators is loud and clear: this is working.
But the need is growing. More children are entering shelters and transitional housing — and every one of them deserves the tools and support to succeed in school.
