Zen Art Hour

Meditative art through the Zentangle ® method is entering a space of calm in the middle of an anxious mind. Through repetitive lines and curvy strokes, participants are able to draw simple patterns.

During class, everyone is encouraged to be mindful of breathing, with relaxed bodies and gentle drawing hands. The outcome is a beautiful art piece after an hour of art facilitation. As founders of Zentangle®, Rick Roberts and Maria Smith encourage every participant that “there are no mistakes” when drawing Zentangle® art. Their hope is that everyone can feel the freedom to create and to boldly try art in a space that is free of judgment.

The result is a feeling of calm and empowerment.

This program is provided for FREE to our unhoused neighbors who deeply benefit from an hour of meditation & creativity in the middle of their chaotic lives. Mental health experts affirm that this provides significant qualitative benefit to people struggling to survive and thrive.

Join us for an upcoming session of meditative art via Zoom soon! Sponsored by Kaiser Permanente® Foundation Health Plan Inc. in collaboration with Urban Angels SF.

“What I love about Zentangle® is that it turns mindless doodling into mindful meditation. By allowing myself to be led through the process, I was able let go of expectation and let the design reveal itself to me. Joyce is a wonderful teacher, always prepared and organized. With her calming voice and open heart, she leads each of us to create art that is beautiful in its individuality.
