Help a group of San Francisco children start the school year prepared.

Many children living in supportive housing communities across San Francisco begin the school year without the basic supplies they need to feel ready and confident on the first day of class.

Urban Angels SF is working to change that.

Through our 8th Annual Backpacks & School Supplies Campaign, families, businesses, churches, community groups, and organizations can adopt 10 or more children by helping provide brand-new backpacks and fully stocked school supply kits before the school year begins.

When you adopt a shelter group, you are helping children walk into school prepared, supported, and reminded that people in their own city care about their future.

How Your Adoption Helps

  • For many families living in supportive housing, the cost of back-to-school supplies can be overwhelming.

    Without the right materials, children may walk into the classroom feeling embarrassed, anxious, or already behind. But with a new backpack, notebooks, pencils, folders, markers, erasers, and other essentials, that same child can begin the year prepared.

    This campaign is about more than school supplies.

    It is about dignity.
    Confidence.
    Hope.


    And the simple but powerful message that someone in their own city cares.

  • Adopt-A-Shelter is designed to be simple.

    You choose how many children your family, business, church, organization, or community group would like to support. Urban Angels SF handles the rest.

    Our team purchases the backpacks and school supplies in bulk, prepares each kit, and coordinates delivery directly with supportive housing residences across San Francisco before the school year begins.

    To protect each family’s privacy and dignity, supplies are delivered through residential staff rather than directly to children or families.

    Supporters may also include handwritten notes of encouragement, which Urban Angels SF will deliver along with the school supplies.

  • Adopt-A-Shelter begins with support for 10 children.

    $400 provides backpacks and school supplies for 10 children
    $1,000 provides backpacks and school supplies for 25 children
    $2,000 provides backpacks and school supplies for 50 children
    $4,000 provides backpacks and school supplies for 100 children

    Your family, business, church, organization, or community group can adopt a group of children or help provide supplies for an entire supportive housing community.

    A generous donor has offered to match the first $5,000 in donations, helping early adopters make an even greater impact for children preparing to start the school year.
