The Focus Fund: Our Spring 2026 Campaign
The Focus Fund is Urban Angels SF’s Spring 2026 education campaign, running from February 17 through March 17.
During this one-month effort, we are working to enroll 250 new children in tutoring and provide the tools they need to focus, learn, and gain confidence in school.
Building on the success of enrolling more than 300 children over the last two years, this campaign is a concentrated push to reach families living in shelters or experiencing poverty across San Francisco — right when students are working hard to finish the school year strong.
What Is The Focus Fund? Helping Children Learn When Life Is Loud
For children living in San Francisco in poverty or in shelters, the simple act of concentrating on schoolwork is usually a daily struggle. Busy shelters, shared rooms, noisy public spaces, and crowded living conditions all make it harder for kids to focus on learning. When children can’t focus, their ability to read, write, and succeed in school suffers.
The Focus Fund by Urban Angels SF exists to remove some of those barriers. It provides high-impact one-on-one tutoring and the essential tools children need — like noise-canceling headphones and reliable Chromebooks — so that students can concentrate, feel confident, and make measurable academic progress.
Why Focus Matters
Focus isn’t just a “nice-to-have” for learning — it’s foundational. In a 2024 survey of U.S. public schools by Institute of Education Sciences, 26 % of school leaders reported that a lack of focus among students had a severe negative impact on learning during the school year, highlighting how critical attention is to academic success. In that same study, 90 % of schools offering high-dosage tutoring rated it as effective in improving student outcomes.
Research also shows that noise has a measurable negative impact on academic and cognitive performance, especially in younger students. A meta-analysis of multiple studies found a significant reduction in cognitive performance in noisy environments, demonstrating how environmental distractions can impede learning.
For a child already facing instability at home, these challenges are compounded. Without consistent support, students can fall further behind and struggle to catch up, which makes targeted interventions — like tutoring in a low-distraction environment — even more essential.
Who We Serve
The Focus Fund is dedicated to supporting children in San Francisco who are:
Living in shelters
From families experiencing poverty
Facing unstable housing or economic hardship
These are students who often lack access to quiet spaces, reliable technology, or consistent academic support — all key ingredients for learning.
How Your Gift Makes a Difference
The Focus Fund turns generosity into real, measurable educational support. Rather than simply buying “things,” donations provide children with the focused learning environment they deserve.
Here’s how giving translates into impact:
$35 — Provides noise-canceling headphones to reduce distractions
$65 — Buys 1 child 1 Chromebook for remote, live, one-on-one learning
$100 — Fully equips one child for a year of tutoring with the tools they need
$250+ — Creates group-level impact, enabling shared learning opportunities and support
$2,500 — Equips an entire classroom of students for focus and success
At $100 per child, your gift helps ensure that a student can attend tutoring sessions with fewer interruptions, better access to technology, and greater confidence to participate and improve.
The Bigger Picture
Urban Angels SF has already helped more than 300 children through targeted tutoring support over the past two years. With The Focus Fund this spring, we’re working to enroll 250 more, bringing dedicated academic support and stability to more families in need.
Your contributions aren’t just resources — they are opportunities: the chance for a child to read with confidence, to keep up in class, and to know that someone believes in their potential.
